Women Building Connection

A FREE event series where five (5) women local to Nipawin, from varying cultural backgrounds that are representative of our community, will each speak to her culture in relation to the Power of Five (5): Agency, Authenticity, Connection, Wholeness, Healthy Mind.

June 26 will host a keynote address from Nipawin's very own, Yaa Nyamekye. Yaa relocated to Montreal, Canada from Ghana, West Africa over a decade ago. She then moved to Ottawa, Ontario after a year to further her education. Yaa received a diploma in Addictions Counselling at CDI College and a degree in Social Worker at Carlton University both in Ottawa. Yaa also holds a BA in Psychology from the University Ghana. She worked with the Ministry of Social Services for 13 years. She is currently a Wellness Consultant for East Central Education Partnership and works with Bernard Constant Community School in James Smith. Yaa is married with 4 children. Yaa loves to cook and garden.

All-Women are invited to listen, ask questions, and take notes that highlight cultural similarities - helping participants to build deeper cultural and community connections.

The event series will take place at The Dam Smokehouse at Nipawin. The space is welcoming and central to the community. This venue is also representative that a women can not RiSEUP on her own. Rather, men and women must RiSEUP together. The establishment is owned and operated by husband and wife, Faron and Andrea, who live upstairs with their daughter.

Faron believes that "empowerment of women is vital to a healthy society, home foundation, and business. Building today to become leaders of tomorrow is both important and necessary in shaping a balanced world we all seek. To be able to be part of that process in a small way is an honour”.

The event series is FREE and includes coffee, tea and a healthy bag lunch to stay and mingle or take-away. Thank you to our sponsors SaskCultures, SaskLotteries, and The Dam Smokehouse.

RiSEUP creates a safe space for women to connect, learn, and rise up together. Helping each other to find common ground. Build connection and share tools that help all-women to RiSEUP to life challenges.

"I pray and hope that my time spent with the ladies will have a positive impact in their lives on June 26th." ~Yaa Nyamekye
